Increased safety in motorcycling
Automatic emergency braking systems on motorbikes could increase the safety of motorised two-wheelers, but the limits of driving dynamics and controllability by drivers must first be investigated. On behalf of the Federal Highway Research Institute (BASt), various technical possibilities of brake assistance were examined for their suitability. The significant reduction in braking distances and a high level of acceptance in trials with test persons generally speak in favour of the use of emergency braking systems on motorbikes. However, there is a need for further research to determine the possible range of applications in real road traffic.
