Driver training put to the test

In order to improve the preparation of novice drivers, an optimised driver training is needed. On behalf of the Federal Highway Research Institute (BASt), the current training practice was therefore put to the test and a concept was developed with which the contents and methods as well as the procedure of driver training were adapted according to current scientific findings. The concept offers the prerequisite to achieve a higher learning effectiveness and thus a better training quality of the future driver training. The results are currently being discussed in the relevant expert committees. If implemented, both an improvement in the acquisition of driving skills and a higher pass rate in the driving tests are expected. Following the optimisation of the examinations for obtaining a driving licence and the reform of driving instructor training, the systematic improvement of driver training represents an essential step towards more safety in road traffic.
