More safety at pedestrian traffic lights is possible

The safe crossing of roads is supported by pedestrian traffic lights. In the technical regulations, 3 control options are available for this purpose, but their specific advantages and disadvantages have not yet been analysed in the past. On behalf of the Federal Highway Research Institute (BASt), the different control options have now been investigated in order to derive recommendations for their use. The results obtained provide a good basis for further research projects in the context of pedestrian traffic signalisation. With regards to the high practical relevance, the results also provide a good foundation for a revision of the technical regulations.
