FTA is a specialized unit of the University Hospital of Padova, Italy. FTA's activities include consultancy, research, and training.

  • Consultancy is carried out by means of: analytical and toxicological studies on the environment, organic and inorganic materials, biological fluids and tissues; reports on toxicological themes of judicial, administrative and health importance.
  • Research is carried out in the fields of: preclinical and clinical toxicology; behavioural toxicology; pathology and forensic toxicology; doping control; social medicine (traffic and workplace safety).
  • Training involves workshops and courses within the framework of: degree, specialization courses, post graduate work (clinical, analytical and forensic toxicology), research doctorates in behavioural and forensic toxicology.
  • FTA's activities are directed to: judicial authorities, hospitals, health units, public organizations, industry, insurance, private organizations.

The FTA collaborates with internationally known universities as well as government and scientific institutions. FTA promotes agreements between institutions, prepares operational models, and conducts scientific research, monitoring and prevention programmes in the fields of behavioural toxicology, forensic toxicology, and social medicine. FTA personnel belongs to the University and Hospital of Padova. They are all specialized in the fields of medicine, pharmaceutical chemistry, chemistry, biochemistry, statistics and informatics, and law. The director of FTA is Prof. S.D. Ferrara. FTA facilities include laboratories, patient examination rooms and functional units. FTA's instrumentation includes equipment for analytical - immunochemical, spectrophotometric, spectrometric and chromatographic - techniques (GC, HPLC, GC/MS, HPLC/MS, MS/MS), computerized systems for analytical morphometry and psychomotor performance measurements.
