KTL - National Public Health Institute

The task of KTL is to promote, carry out research into and monitor public health in Finland. The aim is to promote people's possibilities to live healthy life. KTL has been operating 93 years and it has developed into a top-level international research institute with around 800 employees. KTL, as research institute and expert body under Ministry of Social Affairs and Health, is responsible for providing decision makers, health personnel and the public with best available health information as tool for their choices. KTL promotes actions for healthy options at all levels.

KTL / Drug Research Unit has carried out research on alcohol, drugs and driving since 1977. All specimens taken from suspected drunken drivers are analysed at KTL/ Drug Research Unit in Finland. Drunken drivers in traffic flow has been followed since 1978. In this road side survey 30,000 drivers are stopped annually. KTL /Drug Research Unit is participating ROSITA II EU-project and was also a participant in ROSITA I.
