Remote-controlled aerial vehicles for the inspection of structures
For the regular inspections of infrastructure structures such as bridges, the structures have so far been inspected by hand. Accordingly, the assessments prove to be lengthy and cost-intensive. The use of unmanned aerial systems could contribute to a significant acceleration and support of the visual inspection. The Federal Highway Research Institute (BASt) therefore initiated the development of an automated image evaluation procedure that is to be used in the future as part of the inspection of structure.
The results form the development basis for a future support system that covers the process chain from the planning of data acquisition to the reliable location of potential damage during the inspection of infrastructure structures.
