Assessment methods for interaction with Level 2 vehicles

Driving with vehicles that have Level 2 features can have undesirable side effects: Driving tasks taken over by the vehicle can contribute to distraction due to being under-challenged and misunderstanding on the part of drivers. If driver intervention is then suddenly required, this can in turn lead to overload. Initial indications show that an appropriate design of the human-machine interaction (MMI) can have a positive effect. On behalf of the Federal Highway Research Institute, a standardised assessment concept for MMI has now been developed that can be flexibly used in various test environments.
