Development of a cost assessment of vehicle restraint systems over the entire service life
In order to mitigate the consequences of accidents, restraint systems made of steel or concrete have proven their worth over the past decades. However, up to now only the initial costs of the systems have been considered when awarding contracts for safety barriers, but not any subsequent costs. On behalf of the Federal Highway Research Institute (BASt), approaches have now been developed for a cost analysis that covers the entire service life of vehicle restraint systems. In this way, the long-term relevant costs of different systems could be estimated already during the planning phase.
