Increasing self-awareness of their own performance deficits in older drivers

Elderly road users can compensate for their own performance deficits in road traffic to varying degrees by changing their behaviour (compensation). Such adaptation processes are all the more successful the better those affected are able to recognise existing deficits. On behalf of the Federal Highway Research Institute (BASt), an online questionnaire tailored to older drivers was developed to increase awareness of dangers in road traffic and thus contribute to a more realistic self-assessment of individual strengths and weaknesses so that individual behavioural adaptations are improved.
