Accidents and behaviour of pedestrians in road traffic

The risk of being injured in traffic accidents is disproportionately high for pedestrians. It is assumed that they behave differently depending on their age group or under distraction, for example when using a mobile phone. The Federal Highway Research Institute (BASt) therefore commissioned a basic investigation of pedestrian behaviour. Distraction and other factors that can promote accidents were taken into account. The knowledge gained will be incorporated into safety communication and will be implemented in the technical regulations for road design.
