Improved durability through optimized closing of drill core extraction points
In order to assess completed road construction work, it is necessary to take drill core samples. Although the drill core extraction points are closed again, many of the closures turn out to be of inferior quality. The result is damage to the construction. On behalf of the Federal Highway Research Institute (BASt), a draft of a procedure for the professional closing of drill core extraction points was therefore drawn up in order to prevent subsequent damage to asphalt and concrete pavements and to improve the long-term maintenance of quality in road construction. This draft forms the basis for further revision in the corresponding committees of the Road and Transportation Research Association (FGSV).
The developed documentation concept is a first and important step towards central data backup. In the long term, the establishment of a database for the collection and provision of relevant information is recommended.
