Application requirements for the use of critical soils and secondary building materials as mass building materials in earthworks
The reuse of non-hazardous construction and demolition waste is to increase in the future. On behalf of the Federal Highway Research Institute (BASt), it was therefore investigated to what extent organogenic soils, soils with low consistency and secondary building materials are suitable for use as mass building materials in earthworks. The research results describe the application requirements for these groups of substances, but also draw attention to the limits of their usability.
The research results show the application prerequisites that allow materials that are considered difficult or less suitable to be used more frequently. The study provides owners and planners with a useful tool for an initial assessment of important structural properties, but also of the limits of usability. The collected findings are to be discussed in the responsible committees.
