Better help for psychological stress caused by road crashes

Accidents in road traffic cannot only result in physical injuries. Many affected people, but also helpers, suffer from psychological stress after accidents. However, the population is hardly aware of existing care services. The Federal Highway Research Institute (BASt) has therefore initiated a survey of existing services for people with psychological accident consequences. The study results emphatically point to a need for action to improve the care situation of people with psychological accident consequences. Improving the retrievability of information was identified as an essential starting point. Following a workshop, a working group of representatives from various organisations came together to promote the further development and implementation of a care atlas. This portal, Hilfefinder.de, which has since gone online, is intended for those affected as well as for relatives, treating persons and professional helpers
