Restoration of fitness to drive - Requirements for course evaluation
High quality demands are placed on courses for restoring fitness to drive. Persons who have become conspicuous in road traffic with alcohol and/or drugs related offences can clear doubts about their fitness to drive during a medical-psychological examination (MPU). If deficits are found, they can be eliminated by taking part in a course to restore fitness to drive in accordance with §70 of the Driving Licence Ordinance (FeV). After successful completion, participants in these traffic-psychological group measures are issued a new driving licence without further assessment. Since the courses are subject to correspondingly high quality requirements, regular evaluation is required. The Federal Highway Research Institute (BASt) has now investigated which conditions should be defined for the evaluation. The requirement was the applicability to §70 courses, but also to other areas of driving aptitude promotion.
The defined requirements for the evaluation can be applied in the future by the providers of §70 courses. It would be conceivable to use the same requirements with minor adjustments for further measures in the legally regulated area, for example for psychological measures accompanying the use of alcohol interlocks.
