The elderly in road traffic

A new study by the Federal Highway Research Institute (BASt) confirms a significant correlation between the lifestyle of elderly drivers and the risk of accidents. A total of six lifestyle groups were identified, which differ considerably in terms of accident involvement and expectations relevant to road safety. According to this, the accident risk of senior citizens increases with an active lifestyle that is associated with the desire for variety. The current SENIORLIFE study by BASt provides new findings on this subject, which can be used as a basis for addressing elderly people at greater risk in road traffic in a targeted and effective manner in the future.
