Evaluation of road safety audit in Germany during planning

In the planning phase of roads, independent safety audits are to identify potential safety deficits in a targeted manner. On behalf of the Federal Highway Research Institute (BASt), the extent to which audits are anchored in municipalities and federal states has now been investigated. The recommendations developed in this way are intended to enable safety audits of roads of all categories to be carried out more effectively in future, as they make a significant contribution to improving the planning quality in terms of road safety. This requires both increased acceptance by decision-makers and an intensification of the training and further education of planners working in practice in the field of road safety. The deficit lists drawn up can help to make the application of auditing even more effective in the future. They are to be published on the BASt homepage as a supplement to the set of rules.
