International Transport Research Documentation (ITRD)

A Source of Information for Researchers, Engineers and Consultants

ITRD is a co-operative worldwide database of information which has been in existence since 1972 as one of the key activities of the OECD Road Transport and Intermodal Linkages Research (RTR) Programme. ITRD is managed by the Joint Transport Research Centre of the International Transport Forum at the OECD in Paris, France.

The ITRD is a database of information on:

  • Traffic and Intermodal Transport
  • Road Safety and Accident Studies
  • Vehicle Design and Safety
  • Environmental Effects of Transport
  • Construction of Roads and Bridges
  • Tunnels, Geotechnics, Soils and Rocks
  • Transport Economics and Policy

More than 400,000 scientific references can be found each with an informative abstract from the world’s published literature (reports, books, journal articles, conference proceedings) together with summaries of ongoing research.

ITRD member institutes provide input to the database in one of the four ITRD languages (English, French, German, Spanish). The keyword code of the quadrilingual ITRD Thesaurus allows all records to be searched independently of the language of the abstract. BASt is the German language co-ordinating centre.

The databases of ITRD and of the U.S. Transportation Research Board’s Transportation Research Information Services (TRIS) were integrated in 2011 to create TRID, the TRIS and ITRD Database. TRID is one of the world’s largest online resources for transport, and is designed to meet the needs of researchers, engineers, consultants and officials at all levels. It offers free access to more than 1 million records of published literature or on-going research from around the world in a single database. More than 25,000 records are added to TRID every year. TRID covers all land transport modes and increasingly air and maritime in more than 20 countries.
