These Web pages can be viewed with any standard browser. We recommend Mozilla Firefox for optimal presentation.
Embedded movies are optimized for Adobe Flash Player from version 10.
Flexible layout
This Website is flexibly designed and adapts to the size of your browser window. The presentation is optimal, with a resolution of 1024 x 768 pixels.
Font size
Change the font size by holding the "Ctrl" key and moving the scroll wheel on your mouse. Alternatively, the font size can be changed with the browser settings:
Mozilla Firefox
In Firefox, you can enlarge or reduce the font size in the menu "View", submenu "Text size".
Internet Explorer
In the Internet Explorer up to Version 6, you change the font size in the menu "View", submenu "Font size".
In Internet Explorer, Version 7, the setting is made with the help of the button "Page", submenu "Text size".
Navigation options
The pages are structured in a standardised way and navigation and content are separated into different areas. The "Sitemap" provides a linked overview to all topics and subtopics that are offered on the website of the Federal Highway Research Institute.
Internal and external links
Links are shown in blue on our pages.
When you move the mouse over an internal link, the title of the respective Web page will be shown. After clicking on the link, the respective page will be shown in the same browser window.
When you move the mouse over an external link, the message "External link to new window" is shown. After clicking on the link, the page opens in a new window.

Documents for downloading are shown in blue. On the right side, next to the title of the document, information concerning the file format and the file size is provided.
Click on the title of the document to open the file. Thereafter, the document is shown in a new window.
Barrier-free PDF files
The documents provided for downloading are currently not yet barrier-free (accessible for handicapped people). Our goal is to provide barrier-free PDF files as far as this is possible and useful or to provide the content in HTML format.
Should you require content in a form that is accessible to you, please send us an e-mail to the following address:
E-mail: webmaster@bast.de
We will try our best to send this content to you in a different form.
Print function
The content of the Website is optimised for printer output. The print function allows printing of the page content in DIN A4 format without showing the navigation aids, header bar or margin column at the right side on the printout. Select the button "Print page" at the bottom end of each page. After clicking on the button, a printer dialog opens in a new window.
Search
Our pages offer two search functions: simple search and extended search. The simple search function is located on the left side below the navigation area. You can enter one or several terms in the "Search" field. The search result is shown in a new page. The extended search is reached with the arrow symbol next to the simple search function.
Hints for searching:
- When you enter several terms, all search results contain all terms entered.
- The difference between capital and small letters is ignored.
- The results can be sorted by date or relevance.
- The results can be restricted by entering “Last change after” or “Last change before”.

The Federal Highway Research Institute aims at designing its website according to the Barrier-free Information Technology Ordinance as far as this is possible.
